About
Me
My name is Andrew Thorpe and I’m a graduate game developer based in the Midlands, currently employed at Eurocom.
I mainly code in C++ and C#, but dabble in a number of languages, tools and APIs, I generally have a number of projects going on at-once, most of which probably won’t get finished but are good fun/learning experiences, I am particularly fond of participating in code-jams (you can do a lot in a small amount of time if you put your mind to it).
Pretty much all of my projects are game-based but not all of them are games, I am also interested in producing tools and middleware to make programming games easier/more fun. All of my hobby projects are released under a permissive licence, which means it’s totally cool to use it in your commercial project.
I do other things to! I am a proud member of Nottinghack, a group of hackers (not those kind of hackers) and geeks from numerous fields who meet regularly to make cool stuff and hang out. I am starting to learn woodwork (felt the need to do something a bit more low-tec). I am on a personal mission to read everything Philip K. Dick has written (it may take a while), My other main interests are psychology, physics, design, UX, architecture and classic art, my music tastes cover everything from happy-hardcore to death metal.
This site
This site acts as my portfolio and main-blog, expect it to be filled with coding/geekry for a general audience. I aim to update the blog section fairly often so feel free to kick me if I’ve not posted in a while. The views represented here are my own and do not necessarily represent those of my employer.
The portfolio section will not change very often, and when it does expect a blog post, as that is saved for relatively complete projects.
The projects section, is auto-generated from the Redmine instance running on this server, which will give you more of an idea what I’m up to.
The downloads section is the place for code and executables, but could do with some work.
This site is backed by WordPress and the theme is a very modified version of Black-LetterHead by Ulysses Ronquillo, under the terms of its viral licence, my modifications can be found here.
